The Who announce they will tour Canada and the United States in 2019 with 29 dates spreads over two parts of the year – the first leg in the spring and the second leg kicking off in September.
They also announce that 2019 will see the recording and release of a brand new studio album. As yet there is no title.

Pete Townshend announces that the cover of the new Who album will be designed by Sir Peter Blake. Blake also designed the cover of 1981's Face Dances album.

The Who announce that they will headline a concert at Wembley Stadium on July 6 with support from their good friend, Eddie Vedder and from the Kaiser Chiefs.
February 2
Rachel Fuller's Animal Requiem is given its premiere at St James's church in Piccadilly. Robert Ziegler conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with guest vocalist Alfie Boe.
February 3
Pete Townshend, with brother Simon, Zak Starkey, Pino Palladino and backing vocalist and old friend Billy Nicholls meet up at British Grove Studios in Chiswick for the first day of recording the new Who album. Producer Dave Sardy and engineer Jim Monti are there having just flown in from the States. Good to see Alan Rogan too. He's had a rough time of it of late with a lot of treatment for his cancer. Pete films all the rehearsals. They can be seen in our News section of thewho.com and on The Who's official YouTube channel.

Doug Sandom, The Who original drummer dies at the grand age of 89. He began drumming for the band when they were first called The Detours.

Coronet Books announce that Pete's new novel The Age of Anxiety will be published on November 5 this year.
May 7 - June 1
The first leg of The Who's Moving On! tour of Canada and the United States. The kickoff date is May 7 in Grand Rapids, MI with the band wrapping up the first leg of the tour on June 1 in Toronto, ON. On each date The Who are accompanied by a symphony orchestra conducted by Keith Levenson from orchestral arrangements by David Campbell. First violin is Katie Jacoby who accompanied Roger on his Tommy tour the previous summer. Also featured is Audrey Q Snyder on cello.
June 14
The Who's Tommy Orchestral is released by Polydor Records featuring Roger Daltrey with members of The Who band and orchestra conducted by Keith Levenson. A seven-inch vinyl single of 'Pinball Wizard' taken from the album is released with The Who's original 1969 recording on the B-side.
The Who @52, a pop-up shop is opened for two days in Brewer Street, Soho selling the album plus Who merchandise and tickets for The Who's show at Wembley Stadium on July 6. Roger Daltrey appears on the opening night for a radio interview with Absolute Radio's Claire Sturgess.

Roger Daltrey’s new album, The Who’s Tommy Orchestral entered the Billboard Classical chart at Number 1, earning it the highest ranking debut award. The album entered the chart above Andrea Bocelli’s Si and Luciano Pavarotti’s Music From the Soundtrack: Pavarotti.

Alan Rogan, Pete Townshend's guitar tech for more than 40 years passes away. He had been fighting a losing battle with cancer. The music world mourns a dear friend.
July 6
The Who return to Wembley Stadium, London for a major concert with performances from Conor Selby, Imelda May, Kaiser Chiefs, our old friend Eddie Vedder and finally The Who.
September 1
The second leg of The Who's 2019 Moving On! tour of North America kicks off with a return to Madison Square Garden. The tour then continues with shows in Toronto, St Paul MN, and several cities and venues across the US but the Houston show was cut short because of Roger's voice cutting-out due to pollen in the atmosphere which then put paid to shows in Dallas and Denver which had to be postponed. The Moving On! tour finally ended on 24 October at the Hollywood Bowl followed a couple of days later with a Backyard Benefit in Pacific Palisades, CA.
December 6
The long-awaited twelfth studio album by The Who, entitled WHO is released to world-wide acclaim. With an album cover designed by Sir Peter Blake, WHO includes eleven tracks, ten written by Pete Townshend plus 'Break The News' composed by Pete's brother Simon.
