The P.E.M. Memorial Committee Annual Scholarships

The P.E.M. Memorial Scholarship Fund for Finneytown High School Seniors

On 4 May 2020, the P.E.M. Memorial Committee delivered their annual scholarships to four very deserving Finneytown High School graduating seniors.

This year was very different. For starters, the committee have always done three scholarships per year – one for each of our three friends lost on 3 December 1979, namely Stephan Preston, Jackie Eckerle and Karen Morrison.

Being that 3 December 2019 was both the 40th anniversary of 3 December 1979 and the 10th anniversary of The P.E.M. Memorial, the committee decided on a one year change to give four scholarships, having this year’s fourth scholarship be in the name of Teva Rae Ladd, Bryan J. Wagner, Peter D. Bowes, David J. Heck, Philip K. Snyder, Connie Sue Burns, Walther H. Adams, Jr. and James T. Warmoth, completing the circle of 11 lost souls from 3 December 1979.

Following social distancing rules, the committee made no close contact with the awardees and their families but still delivered each scholarship with balloons, candies and treats with horns and bull horns blaring and of course, the scholarship award certificate itself.

It was overly important this year to make these scholarship awardees feel the PEM love due to what they have had to give up – graduation, prom, senior night, senior activities and just being with their friends to end the school year.

Here, officially, are the four scholarship awardees-alphabetically:

SAYA AMEND

CAM BRUDER

ADRIEN RAMSEY

• ZACHARY WUORINEN

Submitted with much love to all:

John Hutchins – FHS 1980
Steve Bentz -O – FHS 1980
Fred Wittenbaum – FHS 1983
Walt Medlock – FHS 1979
Toni Hutchins
Mary Anne Medlock – FHS 1982

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU! ESPECIALLY ZACHARY AS I LIVE NEAR HIM AND HEAR HIM PRACTICE HIS BASS AND TRUMPET. YOU ALL HAVE BROUGHT DISTINCT CREDIT UPON YOURSELVES, FINNEYTOWN, AND THE SOULS LOST IN THE TRAGEDY ON 12.03.1979. GOOD LUCK IN COLLEGE AND YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVOURS! P.S. I AM SADDENED THAT ‘THE WHO’ TOUR 2020 WAS CANCELLED (AND I HAD 8TH ROW FLOOR SEATS). REALLY SADDENED!
