  Starting at noon, this show featured supporting acts Montrose, Lindisfarne, Bad Company, Lou Reed, Humble Pie, and Maggie Bell before The Who took the stage in front of 50,000 fans. The concert was taped by BBC Television and broadcast on the BBC 2 programme, Second House on October 5, 1974. Pete was also interviewed by Melvyn Bragg during the programme, part of which may be seen in The Kids Are Alright. Four songs from this show, ‘Substitute’, ‘Drowned, ‘Bell Boy’ and the ‘My Generation’ jam can be seen in Thirty Years Of Maximum R&B Live.

    this was the show I got to see the who for the first time as all shows I tried to get tickets for sold out this 20 year old at the time of the concert took his 18 year old mate with him I drove up to London parked on the south bank and we caught the tube to the valley we missed Montrose but watched all the other acts loved humble pie the we got to see the who how we lapped up the next two hours pete said it was a substandard who show but me and my mate were ecstatic and talked about the show all the way back to Reading happy days
