The Who’s 1973 album Quadrophenia was dedicated to the audiences at this venue (among others) that the band played to during 1965. It is also possible that this gig provided one of the formative experiences of the Mod/Rocker phenomenon that Pete Townshend later recalled as being an influence on Quadrophenia: “We were playing at Brighton Aquarium and I saw about two thousand Mod kids and there were three Rockers up against a wall. They’d obviously just come in thinking that they were going to a party and they really were scared as hell, and the Mods were just throwing bottles at them.” ; Saturday
