The Who Rock Liverpool

The Twittersphere – @TheWho – started buzzing yesterday morning, as fans, young and old, mod and metro, made their pilgrimage to Liverpool’s Echo Arena to see The Who perform Quadrophenia (and greatest hits). And it hasn’t stopped buzzing since. The Who didn’t disappoint their audience and the stage production, directed by Roger Daltrey, of Quadrophenia, which has already been described in several press articles as the definitive Quadrophenia, met and beat expectations.

“An amazing gig,” writes Marc Waddington of the Liverpool Echo, “and as you sat through the video montage of momentous events from the year they formed through to now, you got a feeling that this band will never die, just as their music never grows old.”

The Who take ‘Quadrophenia and More’ to Paris and Amsterdam this week before closing the tour on Monday July 8th at Wembley Arena, London. A few tickets are still available HERE.

    Amazing show in Liverpool Sunday,fantastic.

  2. Pat says:

I was at the Liverpool Echo Arena last night and it was probably the best gig I have seen in the last 10 years. I last saw The Who at The Southampton Guildhall in 1971 (I think!)soon after the release of Who’s Next. The way they rampaged through Baba O’Reilly last night was like going back over 40 years again.

Literally speechless – can’t get all those high notes any more!

  3. Simon Jarman MBE says:

I am sixty years old seen many bands over the years, unfortunately never seen the WHO before but always admired their work.

It was absolutely fantastic and Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry will go down in history as two of the best. Grear to see the two other talents who are no longer with us come through on video.

A great night, thank you, Simon Jarman

  5. Chris says:

Watched The Who last week in Manchester, as Gary Barlow would say, “Absolutely Fantastic”.
I am not sure Marc Waddingtons write up though, i’m sure it was Scott Devours on the drums.

Not lost it chaps, keep the Union Jack flying.

  6. Sam says:

Been following The Who for 9 years, and I’ve finally seen them live.

And it’s true what they say, you’ve got to see them live… absolutely brilliant, I’ll never forget it.

    A-mazing

  8. Ian Mottram says:

Thrilling gig at Liverpool. The band were ‘on it’ right from the off. The crowd more than played their part. This the 13th time I have seen The Who, the first being Charlton in 1976. The Liverpool show was up there with the very best I have seen from them. No other live act I have seen even comes close.

  9. Ian Kelman says:

Best show we have ever seen!!!

  10. Gary Jones says:

Went to see the who 4 times on this tour, the gig on Sunday night was fantastic and the best I have ever seen the band perform

  11. Steve Page says:

A very fine night in all respects and topping what was presented in the LG Brum by some margin.
Many good moments – Quad performed with some excellent playing and singing, an inadvertent loss of a count in provided a demo of just how much “oomph”! Pete’s electric sound is adding!
The sound was superb at what seems to be a brand new venue (the last time I saw The Who in Liverpool it was in a tent!).I see from previous comments that people rate this show – let me add I agree to that and more, it was the best I’ve seen for Donkeys years.
    Thank you The Who.

The Who was the BEST 21st birthday present I could ever have asked for! Loved them for years, especially the Quadrophenia album/film. The atmosphere was buzzing, all of the guys were absolutely brilliant, loved the stage set up and Bellboy with Keith Moon via the screens. Roger and Pete are still rocking strong. This was my first but not my last gig as long as they continue to tour, you have to see The Who live It just has to be done, fantastic!

    It’s Tonight the Night..Paris ..
In spite of the fact I hate this place (POPB Bercy Arena..) I hope to keep a bright & souvenir of their performance.
My primary motivation is to the the show of the whole playing of the album..(maybe I wouldn’t travel so far and so expensively to see a “Who gig”)and to say a kindly greeting to our favorite composer and rock icon,Pete.

  15. tracey carey says:

loved every moment on sun 30.6.13 at the echo arena , fab live band the arena was rockin , would love to rewind until sun afternoon and do it all again .

  16. George Swietlik says:

I don’t normally comment on site such as this but guys ( Pete Townsend & Roger)your performance and the whole show I will never forget. Mind you that’s not many years left to forget. I just wished that I saw you guys when I was younger and when Keith and John were still with this. The timing with clips and emotions and the sublimely message was immense. You are truly more than a band or a musically group. I hope you felt justly rewarded for your efforts by the Liverpool crowd although a few of us did the journey and were rewarded by just being there.

  17. Noel says:

Great to see Quadrophenia live again, as always they delivered a great gig in Liverpool but top marks to Roger for a really great voice and the drumming was quite superb. Saw Simon’s gig the next night at the O2 Academy, poor turnout for a city like Liverpool (Monday night was no excuse)but the guys played their heart out and put in a fantastic set. The band hung around and chatted and signed CD’s, they were all really nice, whatever you do don’t miss them if they come around again. Best £12 I’ve spent for years. Thanks to The Who for still touring and Simon and his band, two great nights out.

  18. FABRE-MAIGNE says:

Tanks a lot Roger, Pete !

  19. Ian Watson says:

Second gig in seven days. Booked for the Manchester concert in February, which was great apart from the seats and a few drunken idiots around us. Managed to get two tickets on Thursday for the Echo arena just four rows from the front directly in front of Pete. (could not believe our luck). Just want to add that the Liverpool crowd where amazing. Had a good day all round and met some great people. I love the Albert Dock and nice hotel to boot. Any future concerts we want to see will be in Liverpool from now on, Finished with the M.E.N arena for good. Thanks to the WHO and to you the Liverpool folk for a great Sunday. As Pete said your all a set of Bastards, but ain’t we all? LOL!!
